Account Directors at FCB New York are brilliant brand and business leaders who can inspire their teams and clients to create powerful, brand-building ideas and embody the “never finished” philosophy in all that they do.  

The Account Director is to be seen as the leader of the account both by all members of the client and agency team. The AD should be the hub for all activities, the source of knowledge, help, insight, passion, inspiration, collaboration and direction about a specific client engagement for all agency departments, individuals and the client. 

The AD should have complete mastery of her/his client business, the challenges they face and the goals they (and we) are being measured against. Core to being a strong Account Director is being able to lead the integrated team in developing compelling work and helping to sell great ideas to the client.

Also, the AD plays an important role in mentoring and inspiring his/her agency team. Mentoring means providing advice and counsel, direction and supervision, problem-solving and quality standards as well as opportunities for growth that allow their team members to stretch, be courageous and even make mistakes.  

Responsibilities:
  • The AD is the first place the client goes to provide the agency with direction on a significant assignment or to discuss thinking/input on the agency’s work. This person will integrate into the client environment and be accessible for their strategic needs and overall advertising and marketing concerns.
  • The AD should possess an intimate knowledge of the category markets to which their brands belong and ensure that all agency efforts are in the best interest of building the brand.
  • The AD is involved in and present for all major meetings: internally and with clients. This person should quite literally “own the room” and be in control of the conversation, ensuring effective and clear communication among all participants and clearly communicate next steps.
  • While the AD can speak on behalf on other departments in the agency, the AD should rally his/her creative, strategy, analytics, operations and financial partners to present jointly, consistently and intelligently a cohesive and integrated perspective on any topic requested. 
  • The Account Director is a proactive and effective partner with all cross functional teams – ensuring proper client documentation, assignments and content preparation for each meeting.
  • The AD is responsible for marshaling, integrating and inspiring the client and other members of their integrated marketing team and partner agencies. This person will provide them with the assets (with assistance from other team members), insights and information so that their work can consistently support, deliver and integrate the overall communications strategies and in-market initiatives. This includes integration from both a conceptual, strategic, and implementation perspective.
  • The AD should contribute to the development of the creative product/campaign and ensure high quality agency output.
  • The AD is responsible and accountable for staff plans, ensuring proper agency resources, financial accounting, client profitability and working with agency executives to sell new and innovative solutions to grow the business over the long-term.
  • The AD should train, develop and appropriately delegate to the account team. He/She should encourage and provide growth opportunities. 
  • The AD should identify opportunities to grow existing business and be willing to actively participate in new business pitches.
  • BA required.
  • 15+ years of experience.
