JOB SUMMARY

As a first-line supervisory position within the department, the Editorial Manager fulfills all of the functions of a Senior Editor with regard to account assignments in addition to overseeing the brands within his/her group and working with the Editorial Director to ensure adherence to departmental policies and practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Proofreading

Maintains version control, ensures project file integrity, and verifies that requested changes have been accurately incorporated across rounds of project routing

Editing

Ensure correct spelling, grammatical accuracy, adherence to AMA/brand style, and consistency across brand deliverables

Compliance

Helps ensuring and enforcing compliance with OPDP/regulatory guidelines

Project Management

Ensure timely completion of projects in partnership with internal functions and in regards to editorial budget

Team Management & Development

Onboards new staff to ensure a smooth transition. Supervise direct reports and manage their performance reviews. Provide coaching and mentoring as needed.

Editorial Process

Works with Editorial management team to review, refine, and enforce all departmental and agency-level processes.

Staffing

Participates in interviewing and hiring process to ensure finding a right fit and talent.

Communication

Ensures daily communication to update internal team members on all aspects of projects

Fact checking

Verify factual information in projects vs supporting references

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fulfills core editorial functions on assigned accounts (copyediting, fact checking, proofreading).

 

• Accommodates multiple assignments and manages workload across assigned group effectively by monitoring work stream vs expected assignments and delegating across the team.

 

• Routinely conducts group meetings and one-on-ones with direct reports.

 

• Keeps Editorial Director informed concerning progress and challenges across group, both as needed and in weekly one-on-ones.

 

• Works with other Editorial Managers to coordinate coverage across department.

 

• Enforces OPDP/regulatory guidelines.

 

• Attends status/startup meetings as needed with brand editors to help evaluate workload and negotiate timelines.

 

• Helps editors in group to develop and maintain style guides for assigned accounts.

 

• Spot checks freelancers’/junior staff’s work.

 

• Mentors junior staff to ensure core editorial competencies are achieved and maintained.

 

• Works with new hires within group to ensure acclimation to agency process and assigned brands.

 

• With Editorial Director's approval, secures freelance support as needed.

 

• Provides training and guidance for direct reports.

 

• Maintains records on group’s performance and provides Editorial Director with individual annual performance reviews.

 

• Participates with Editorial Director in conducting direct reports’ annual performance reviews when appropriate.

• Serves as process/information resource for all new business initiatives (presentation decks, concepts, branding materials).

EDUCATION

DEGREE/DIPLOMA: Bachelors

REQUIRED/PREFERRED: Required

EXPERIENCE

MIN EXPERIENCE: 5 years

AREA OF EXPERIENCE: Editorial experience in a pharma agency environment

REQUIRED/PREFERRED: Required

MIN EXPERIENCE: 2 years

AREA OF EXPERIENCE: Management experience (Preferred); Prior launch experience (Required)

OTHER INFORMATION

Typical hours are 9:00am-5:00pm, but the position may require work beyond those hours, including after hours or weekends, as needed or directed.

Second Shift: Typical hours are 4pm–midnight, but the position may require work beyond those hours, including after hours or weekends, as needed or directed.
